take the ai vs artist test here?

yes...
AI response:
AI-generated art has gained a lot of attention in recent years, but it's important to note that AI-created art is still a relatively new field and is not yet a substitute for human art. While AI-generated art can be impressive, it lacks the emotional depth, creativity, and originality that human artists bring to their work.

Furthermore, AI-generated art is typically created using algorithms and data sets that are programmed by humans, so it is not entirely autonomous. The role of the artist in creating and shaping the AI-generated art is still crucial.

So, to answer your question, AI-generated art is not a threat to human artists. It can serve as a useful tool for artists to explore new techniques and styles, but it cannot replace the creativity and intuition that humans bring to their work.

In fact, some artists are embracing AI technology as a tool to enhance their own creative processes, and incorporating it into their work in innovative ways. AI-generated art may even create new opportunities and markets for artists in the future, as it becomes more widely recognized as a legitimate art form.

In summary, while AI-generated art is a fascinating development in the art world, it is not a substitute for human creativity and skill. Artists will continue to play an important role in creating original and emotionally resonant works that cannot be replicated by AI.

My question: what will happen to artists now that ai can create art?

My own thoughts after this discussion: ie. thoughts from a real human.

I think it is easy to fear the unknown - it is human nature. But once you learn more about the actually computational ground of AI, it is easier to understand both its capabilities and limitations: all AI art is, is a compilation of previously created artworks that exist in the programs dataset/database (like google images lets say) the program then takes keywords that you generate (like fish, purple, abstract) and combs through all its acessible data to find correlating images that have also been tagged with the keyword (purple/fish/abstract) to generate a "new" image for you (theoretically resembling an abstract purple fish).

Now the program did not create the image entirely by itself. AI does not have that capability, and mathematically speaking, it might never be able to - programs will continue to improve as AI develops and datasets increase, (it might even learn to mimic "creation") but a system, will probably never be able to originate its own unprompted material. That is why real artists will never be threatened by AI. Computational art is not made from imagination, and lacks meaning, agency, purpose and originality. From a job point perspective, I imagine companies developing AI art will actually be hiring a lot more artists to create images based on keywords for the AI programs to compile.

If you are a contemporary artist who relies on the audience to input meaning onto your work - then maybe you should worry. But as long as you're creative and have meaning to your work - you're irreplaceable.

AI: the possibilities, shortfalls, history and capabilities

It's easy to get frightened of the unknown so lets break down AI
First of all....
its not new at all
Are artists being replaced?
Don't feed into the... "top ten scariest things AI has said"... "AI said this disturbing thing, click to read more"...

What we have here is actually kind of a funny paradox. But first, we have to understand AI as a program: all it is is a program that can store datasets and collect information corelating to a prompt (that's why "art" made by AI is actually just tons of mashed-up images correlating to what you type)

Now that that's straightened out... if you ask an AI program the prompt "what is AI's intention?" the program will then pull all the data in its base on "AI" and "intention" whether it is good or bad. Then the program will use a language formula to put all the info it has gathered in a grammatically correct sentence and feed it back to you.

You see it is funny, the more people speculate about the fear of AI and "computers taking over the world", the more that info (even though it is wrong) is put into the database, the more the program (when prompted) will pull this "scary" info and present it to you. It is not a sentient being, it's just a really smart program that has been coded to collect all available info and sound like a human - that's it.
An important reminder:
Because Microsoft just launched chat GPT and it is freaking some people out.

It is definitely the most advanced language-building program to date but it is far from taking over the world. All the program does is collect data from Microsoft's database and other corporations (like social media platforms - every time you accept terms and conditions different programs access your data) and will pull data based on the keywords you type.

It in no way shape or form is giving you "new Knowledge" or information. It's just putting existing info in front of you.
How come people are talking about AI all of a sudden?

Click to learn more about What's happening to jobs with AI, or scroll down for a summary

Summary: Some very repetitive jobs will be taken over by AI, but any job in which you need to interact and react to a task, or change what you do frequently is perfectly safe. But the plus side is tech has opened up so many new jobs (and so will AI) that we're not going to have a huge "AI is taking all our jobs" problem. It'll be more like "AI is taking jobs a computer can do, but also needs more people to tell it what to do."

Long story short-

are your colleges at a law firm going to be AI? Absolutely not, because AI will never be able to create new info or respond to something unprompted.

is your secretary? It's possible.

The key is to work with AI not against it by incorporating it into your job to make your life more productive.
